Communities in Bloom is a Canadian beautification program that provides information and education, and awards bloom Ratings for achievement in floral displays, landscapes, turf, urban forestry, community involvement, heritage conservation, environmental awareness and tidiness.
This volunteer based, non-profit organization is committed to fostering civic pride, environmental responsibility and beautification through community participation and the challenge of national competition.
Winnipeg was chosen as the 2005 National Winner in the 400,000 population category.
Transcona Biz was proud to be a presenter in this event. The judges were in the Transcona area and were very impressed with the cleanliness, the flowers and of course the festive banners.
Congratulations to Transcona’s own, Lois Whaley for receiving 2nd place honour in the residential category in Winnipeg in Bloom contest.
Lois takes great pride in her flowers and can be seen working non stop in her flower beds. This year Lois adorned her yard with geraniums, cream marigolds, petunias and alyssum.

Lois is a proud member of the Transcona Garden Club. The Club is celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2006.
The Biz sends a huge thank you to the Garden Club for assisting with planting of the flowers this year and for sharing their flower expertise.
