Transcona Hi Neighbour Festival

The Hi Neighbour Festival on June 3, 4 and 5 was a huge success. Even though it rained this year, it did not seem to dampen the spirits and the friendly atmosphere that prevailed.

The parade, sponsored by the Transcona Biz was the biggest parade to date. There were many fantastic floats and great participation by the entire community.

Cash prizes were awarded to the floats that displayed ingenuity, were aesthetically pleasing and showed creativity. With the assistance of judges Larry McIntosh from Peak of the Market, Erin Selby from CTV, Bernice Pontanilla from the Herald, and Bernie Wolfe, a pillar of the Transcona community, prizewinners were selected.

Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd secured 1st place and $500.00, the Transcona Garden Club walked away with second place and $300.00, and the third place and $200.00 went to the illustrious Scarlet Primper Nells (Red Hat Society Ladies).

This year the Biz once again held a Silent Auction and a crafter’s market. A big thanks to everyone that provided prizes for the Silent Auction in support of L’Arche Winnipeg Inc. A total of $909.00 was raised during the Hi Neighbour Festival weekend. L’Arche will put these dollars towards the purchase of a much needed wheelchair accessible van. A craft and flea market offered a selection of unique handicrafts, super bargains and a great selection of products.
