The Transcona Centennial Square

The Transcona BIZ is pleased to present the plans for the Transcona Centennial Square. Centrally located in the heart of downtown Transcona (on the north side of Regent Avenue West, 100 block), the Transcona Centennial Square (TCS) will be a tribute to the history, pride and strong spirit of the community as we approach and gather together to celebrate our 100th Anniversary in 2012. The construction of this quarter acre urban park requires the redevelopment of a parking lot, creating usable community ‘green’ space from a paved wasteland. In addition, four season programming will create continuous activity and excitement in the square, which will contribute largely to the improvement and enhancement of downtown Transcona.

Benefits of the Transcona Centennial Square include:
• social and economic benefits through the aesthetic value and programming of the TCS which will draw customers for the surrounding business community.

• a year round site for programming and services for the entire community, engaging all age groups, from children to seniors.

• Summer activities will include a Market Garden, Community Beautification Program (flowers and shrubs), Hi Neighbour Festival activities, Tai Chi in the square, community picnics, outdoor dances, concerts in the square, film festivals, senior’s luncheons, educational opportunity for schools as an outdoor classroom and the stage area will be used by various groups and associations for awards and ceremonies.

• Winter activities will include skating, snowman building contests, festival of lights and Santa’s Christmas Village.

It is estimated that 100,000 guests and visitors will enjoy the squre annually.
