2014 Transcona BIZ Summer Concert Series

09 Jul : 13:52    printer friendly  create pdf of this news item
The Transcona BIZ is proud to present our 2nd Annual Transcona BIZ Summer Concert Series in the Transcona Centennial Square. We embrace the opportunity to showcase our new and improved BIZ Zone and, welcome local talent and guests to the Transcona Centennial Square.

The free outdoor concerts will take place at Transcona Centennial Square, 135 Regent Ave. West, every Friday evening from 5:00pm to 7:00pm starting July 11 and running until August 29. The line up includes some of Manitoba’s most exciting performers from a wide range of genres.

In celebration of the 2014 World Cup, Brazilian Marco Castillo will open the concert series with his blend of latin samba and jazz funk. Raised in Rio de Janeiro, Marco made Winnipeg home in 2006 and has since become one of the busiest musicians in town. He was just nominated for a 2014 Western Canadian Music Award.

The country and rock duo of David Pestrak and Rheanne Gagnon always make an unforgettable impression. Their on-stage energy and passion, combined with their dynamic vocals, harmonies, and instrumentation captivate audiences from their first note. Rheanne is an accomplished singer – In 2010, she won the Manitoba Star Attractions Talent Showcase, and has also performed numerous times at Dauphin’s Countryfest. David is a multiple-threat – a guitar player, singer, and songwriter. He recently released his third single to Canadian radio off of his debut album, You Ain’t Seen Nothin’ Yet.

The Proud Sons are Southern Rock band from the Great White North. Fusing rock with country, blues, and pop, the Sons have crafted their own distinct brand of rock n' roll. Having played Dauphin's Countryfest, Vancouver's Gone Country with the likes of Aaron Pritchett and Dallas Smith, and most recently, opening for Hedley at the MTS Centre in their hometown of Winnipeg, the boys have proven they can win over any crowd, bending genres along the way.

Brooke Palsson is among Canada’s most talented up and coming singer/songwriters. With her soul soaked and soothing voice, complemented by her own sense of style on the ukulele, Brooke’s veritable vocals are matched only by her passion for performing. Known internationally for her work as a leading role in the HBO hit series, Less Than Kind, the Winnipeg native has created a presence in the entertainment world.

August 8 – PANICLAND

Panicland is a pop band from East Kildonan in Winnipeg, Manitoba, consisting of Braedon Horbacio, Ian Willmer, and Kyle Fox, all 18 years of age. They first met in 2007 through a program at a Winnipeg music store, and even though they were randomly grouped together and only 12 years old, the chemistry was immediate. Panicland springs from the same deadening suburban landscape that has produced so many exciting new bands who refuse to fit into a simple category.

August 15 – THE TREBLE

The Treble are Mark Brusegard - lead vocals, Colin McTavish – keyboard, Graeme Woods – guitar, Dana Jerlo – drums and Patrick Hansen – bass. The band has carved out a reputation for crafting impressively bold and unique rock-infused pop music that has an integral rock vibe and harmony driven melodies that appeal to a phenomenal cross-section of music lovers.

With two EP's under their belt, Shaking Hands and Taking Names, and Northern Lights, the band is hard at work writing their first full-length album working with famed producer, Rob Wells.

August 22 – DON AMERO

Since leaving his job as a hardwood flooring installer seven years ago to pursue music fulltime, the Winnipeg singer/songwriter has toured coast-to-coast and appeared on national television. Don’s musical style has been likened to John-Mayer-meets-Keith-Urban. His four albums (Heart On My Sleeve, The Long Way Home, Deepening, Change Your Life) have generated nine national/international awards, and more than two dozen nominations, including the 2013 JUNO Awards.

Over their fifteen years together Keith Macpherson and Renée Lamoureux have developed a truly unique musical partnership; one based as much on their mutual determination to realize their full potential as singer/songwriters as it is on their shared belief that – beyond entertaining people – music has the power to inspire positive change in the lives of others.
